BeeBSII

With BeeBS running on real hardware, from time to time it will be offline, however you can still access BeeBSII which is a Synchronet based BBS sending out Mode 7 teletext graphics (or ANSI if you're not using a BBC Series Computer). It's a work in progress and takes a bit of set up on the users part (details below) but is pretty functional with email, dovenet, multi node chat and all the mod cons of a modern BBS.

Download Matrix Brandy Client

Setup

During the setup process BeeBSII will not look great on your Beeb, to enable Mode 7 you will need to select the following:

[+] Use automatic terminal type detection? No
[+] Does your terminal support UTF-8? No
[+] Does your terminal support ANSI? No
[+] Are you using a CBM/PETSCII terminal? No
[+] Does your terminal support IBM extended ASCII (CP437)? Yes
[+] HIT your BACKSPACE or DELETE-LEFT key: Character 127 (7Fh)
received.

Once you have completed this at the Main Menu screen (which at this point still will not look correct), select D for terminal settings then:

Turn Automatic Terminal detection Off; Setting Columns to 40 and Rows to 24
Turn off the Spinning Cursor

If you're prompted for any of the above settings reguarding UTF8, PETSCII or ASCII then answer as above.

Finally use /O to log off and then once you sign back in you should have glorious Mode 7!

Navigation

In some parts of BeeBSII you may need to use the cursor keys, if you're using a BBC series computer to connect you may find that the cursor keys do not work, I have adapted a Terminal program which can be used and is avaliable in the Downloads section of BeeBS, or you can use the following navigation keys:

Up - Ctrl ^
Down - Ctrl J
Left Ctrl [
Right Ctrl F

Typing ? at most menus will provide you with help.

Software

For PC/Linux I would recommend Syncterm if you would like to use the ANSI and vt100 menus.
If you wish to use the BBC Mode 7 menus then you can now use the Brandy Matrix Mode 7 Terminal client.
On a BBC Micro I would recommend any Comms package (the most popular being
Termulator, Commstar I or II) but also works well with the Simple Terminal listing.
For an Acorn Archimedes ArcTerm7 is known to support Mode 7 graphics over terminal.

Remember this is Terminal that Supports Mode 7, it is not viewdata and consequently this will not work correctly with a Viewdata client like Telstar or IcyTerm
