Welcome
BeeBS
BeeBS is a BBS hosted for the Acorn BBC Micro series of computers,
affectionately known in the UK as the Beeb. It is designed to support
Mode 7 teletext graphics via terminal, but also supports 80 column
ANSI and 40 column ASCII making it idea for older hardware to connect
to.
In 2023 BeeBS was running on my Acorn BBC Master 128 using a heavily
modified version of OBBS written by Rob O'Donnell in 1984. Features
were added to provide full Mode 7 frames, message attachments,
external Doors, ANSI support, enabling use with TcpSer and Hard Drive
access.
In 2024 I moved over to Synchronet which I had modded to add Mode 7
support. Whilst having more features than you could ever wish to use
Synchronet just wasn't the right fit for me so in 2025 I wrote a new
BBS server using Python which, for me, is a spiritual successor to
OBBS using a similar logic and structure.
