Client Recommendations

Any terminal client works well, but for the best results I would recommend the following:

Windows: Syncterm (now with  Mode 7 support)

Windows (Mode 7): Matrix Brandy Mode 7 Terminal

Linux: Qodem

Android: ConnectBot

iOS: Muffin Term

BBC Micro: Commstar / Commstar II / Termulator

Mode 7 Web Client: JS-BeeBS

ANSI Web Client: Telnet Guide

How to connect

Point your terminal client to beebs.ddns.net port 6502 and hit connect.

FAQs

Connecting from a BBC series computer

In your comms package of choice select Terminal (not Viewdata/Prestel) set your parity to 8n1 and your baud to a max of 9600 (or if you’re a lucky devil using Linemaster 19200 baud) Auto Line Feeds off.

To view Mode 7 (teletext) graphics in your terminal software (Commstar, Termulator etc) you need to turn filtering OFF.

Using the BBC Master 128 Built in Terminal.

  1. Configure your Baud Rate e.g. *Configure Baud 7 <return> will set your baud to 9600 (8 for 19200, although your Beeb may drop the odd character here and there)...this baud rate also needs to match the setting of whatever is at the other end of your serial connection.

  2. Configure the Data parameter *Configure Data 5 <return>(which gives 8n1)

  3. Switch to the Terminal mode *Terminal <return>

  4. At the terminal prompt (=) type BBC <return> which will allow full BBC VDU support

  5. Press <ESC> then connect in your usual way (e.g. ATDTbeebs.ddns.net:6502)...this all depends on what is connected to the other side of your beebs serial cable.

For day to day the built in terminal rom will work fine, however you will be unable to download (as far as I know *Terminal does not support x-modem CRC file transfers...for that reason I would recommend a different comms package).

How do I download files in Commstar

  1. Select the file you would like to download on BeeBS

  2. When prompted select C/PM Transfer (X-Modem 128 byte)

  3. You should see awaiting NAK

  4. Press ESC to return to the Commstar Menu and select

  5. Select D to download

If the file is larger that your available RAM you may need to change from Buffer to Disc.
